Make a simple, comforting fall dessert using just three main ingredients: apple pie filling, cake mix, and butter. This one-pan recipe bakes quickly for an effortless treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
  • 1 (15.25 ounce) box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Pour the entire can of apple pie filling into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the bottom.
  3. Sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix evenly over the top of the apple filling. Do not mix.
  4. Pour the melted butter evenly over the dry cake mix layer.
  5. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  6. Let the cake cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for extra flavor.
  • For an apple spice dump cake variation, mix 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon into the dry cake mix before sprinkling it over the filling.
  • This recipe works well in a slow cooker on low for 3 to 4 hours if you prefer not to bake it.
