Make this flavorful Cajun shrimp in a skillet with a rich garlic butter sauce. This recipe is fast, spicy, and perfect for a weeknight dinner served over rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons Cajun seasoning (use a high-quality blend for bold flavor)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust for heat preference)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
  • Cooked white rice, for serving

Instructions

  1. Pat the shrimp completely dry using paper towels. Season the shrimp lightly with salt, pepper, and half of the Cajun seasoning.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned shrimp in a single layer, being careful not to overcrowd the pan; cook in batches if necessary.
  3. Sear the shrimp for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Remove the cooked shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
  4. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter to the same skillet. Once melted, add the minced garlic and cook for about 30 seconds until fragrant. Do not let the garlic burn.
  5. Stir in the remaining Cajun seasoning and smoked paprika into the melted butter and garlic. Cook for 30 seconds, stirring constantly to create a flavorful base.
  6. Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet. Toss quickly to coat the shrimp evenly in the garlic butter sauce. Cook for 1 minute to reheat.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat. Stir in the fresh lemon juice and chopped parsley.
  8. Serve the Cajun shrimp immediately over hot, fluffy white rice.

Notes

  • For an extra kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes when sautéing the garlic.
  • If you prefer a creamier texture, stir in 1/4 cup of heavy cream with the butter and seasonings before returning the shrimp to the pan.
  • This dish pairs well with simple steamed green beans or asparagus for a complete meal.
