Create an attractive and convenient Mediterranean snack board featuring creamy homemade hummus, perfect for mid-week hosting or a healthy family appetizer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (15-ounce) can chickpeas, rinsed and drained
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons ice water, plus more if needed
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for blending, plus extra for serving
  • Optional toppings: Paprika, chopped parsley, whole chickpeas, olives, pita bread, vegetable sticks

Instructions

  1. Place the rinsed chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, ice water, minced garlic, cumin, and salt into a food processor.
  2. Process the mixture for 2 minutes, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. With the food processor running, slowly drizzle in the 2 tablespoons of olive oil.
  4. Continue processing for another 3 to 5 minutes until the hummus is very smooth and creamy. If the hummus seems too thick, add extra ice water, one teaspoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
  5. Transfer the creamy hummus to a shallow serving bowl. Use the back of a spoon to create swirls on the surface.
  6. Drizzle with extra olive oil and sprinkle with your chosen toppings, like paprika or parsley.
  7. Arrange pita bread, vegetable sticks, and other savory superstars around the hummus to create your party dip aesthetic platter.
  8. Serve immediately or cover and chill for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • For the creamiest texture, peel the skins off the chickpeas before blending.
  • Use high-quality tahini for the best flavor in this tahini recipe.
  • This easy hummus recipe scales well for larger gatherings.
