Make irresistible, crispy baked hot honey chicken with a perfect sweet and spicy glaze. This easy recipe delivers crunch without deep frying, making it a great weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, trimmed
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup Panko breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Cooking spray or 2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat it with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil.
  2. Prepare the chicken: Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels. Set up a standard breading station with three shallow dishes.
  3. In the first dish, combine the flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and regular paprika.
  4. In the second dish, place the beaten eggs.
  5. In the third dish, place the Panko breadcrumbs.
  6. Dredge each piece of chicken first in the flour mixture, shaking off excess. Dip it into the egg, letting excess drip off. Finally, press firmly into the Panko breadcrumbs to coat completely.
  7. Place the breaded chicken on the prepared baking sheet. Lightly spray the tops of the chicken with cooking spray or brush with a little oil to help crisp the coating.
  8. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and the coating is golden brown and crispy.
  9. While the chicken bakes, prepare the hot honey sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the honey, hot sauce, apple cider vinegar, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Heat over low heat, stirring until the mixture is smooth and warm. Do not boil.
  10. Remove the baked chicken from the oven. Immediately brush or drizzle the hot honey sauce generously over all sides of the hot chicken.
  11. Serve the crispy hot honey chicken immediately, perhaps over rice or with your favorite vegetables.

Notes

  • For extra crunch, you can bake the chicken for 15 minutes, remove, flip, brush lightly with oil, and then bake for another 5-10 minutes before saucing.
  • If you are making hot honey chicken bowls, serve this over cooked quinoa or white rice with steamed broccoli or sliced avocado.
  • For a spicier kick, increase the cayenne pepper or use a hotter sauce in the glaze.
