Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 12 small corn or flour tortillas
  • For the Avocado Crema:
  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • For the Slaw:
  • 2 cups shredded green cabbage
  • 1/4 cup shredded carrot
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the shrimp seasoning: In a bowl, toss the shrimp with olive oil, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper.
  2. Marinate the shrimp: Add the 1/4 cup of lime juice and chopped cilantro to the seasoned shrimp. Toss to coat and let it sit for 10 minutes while you prepare the crema and slaw.
  3. Make the avocado crema: Combine the avocado, Greek yogurt, 1 tablespoon lime juice, and 1/4 teaspoon salt in a small food processor or blender. Blend until completely smooth.
  4. Prepare the slaw: In a separate bowl, mix the shredded cabbage, shredded carrot, and 1 tablespoon of lime juice. Toss well.
  5. Cook the shrimp: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp in a single layer (cook in batches if necessary). Cook for 2 to 3 minutes per side until pink and opaque. Do not overcook.
  6. Warm the tortillas: Warm the tortillas according to package directions, usually by heating them briefly in a dry skillet or microwave.
  7. Assemble the tacos: Fill each warm tortilla with the cooked shrimp. Top with the cabbage slaw and drizzle generously with the avocado crema. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add 1/2 teaspoon of chipotle powder to the shrimp seasoning mix.
  • If you do not have Greek yogurt for the crema, you can substitute it with sour cream or mayonnaise.
  • You can use pre-shredded coleslaw mix to save preparation time.
