Follow this simple method to make oven roasted sweet potatoes that achieve crispy edges and a tender interior every time. This healthy side dish uses basic seasonings for maximum flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easier cleanup.
  2. Place the sweet potato cubes in a large bowl. Drizzle with olive oil.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika to the bowl. Toss everything together until the sweet potatoes are evenly coated with oil and spices.
  4. Spread the seasoned sweet potato cubes in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Do not overcrowd the pan; use two sheets if necessary to ensure crispiness.
  5. Roast for 20 minutes. Remove the pan and use a spatula to flip the cubes.
  6. Return to the oven and roast for another 10 to 15 minutes, or until the edges are caramelized and crispy and the centers are soft when pierced with a fork.
  7. Remove from the oven and serve immediately as an easy sweet potato side dish.

Notes

  • For extra crispy sweet potatoes, ensure the potatoes are completely dry before tossing them with oil.
  • If you prefer a sweeter profile, substitute the smoked paprika with 1 tablespoon of brown sugar or maple syrup.
  • This recipe works well for weeknight side dishes or as a healthy roasted vegetables recipe for holiday meals.
