Make these rich, fudgy strawberry swirl brownies from scratch. This recipe combines a deep chocolate base with a bright, sweet layer of fresh strawberry puree, creating a decadent dessert perfect for any gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, pureed (about 1 cup puree)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar (for strawberry swirl)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (for strawberry swirl)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×9 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal. Lightly grease the paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and granulated sugar together until well combined.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, flour, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing only until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Pour half of the brownie batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Prepare the strawberry swirl: In a small bowl, mix the strawberry puree, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth.
  7. Dollop the strawberry mixture over the batter in the pan. Pour the remaining brownie batter over the strawberry layer.
  8. Use a knife or skewer to gently swirl the strawberry mixture into the chocolate batter, creating ribbons of color. Do not over-swirl.
  9. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes. The edges should look set, and a toothpick inserted near the center should come out with moist crumbs attached, not wet batter, for a fudgy texture.
  10. Let the brownies cool completely in the pan on a wire rack before lifting them out using the parchment overhang. Cut into squares.

Notes

  • For an extra layer of flavor, add 1/2 cup of chopped dark chocolate chips to the batter before swirling.
  • If you prefer a slightly chewier texture, reduce the baking time by 2-3 minutes.
  • Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing; this helps them set into perfect fudgy squares.
